About the role
The Senior Political Affairs Officer (P5) will lead the Office of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary‑General for Western Sahara (OPESG) based in Brussels, Belgium. The role supports the United Nations mandate to achieve a peaceful settlement of the Western Sahara conflict, in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Key responsibilities
- Report directly to the Personal Envoy of the Secretary‑General.
- Maintain liaison with the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA).
- Provide strategic political guidance to advance the UN’s efforts for a peaceful settlement of the Western Sahara issue.
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience in political affairs, conflict resolution, and United Nations processes.
- Strong understanding of the Western Sahara conflict and related Security Council resolutions.
Required skills
- Knowledge of United Nations Security Council resolutions pertaining to Western Sahara.
