Power Electronics Engineer - Spacecraft Power Systems

About the role

Aerospacelab, which designs and manufactures small satellites and develops earth observation services, is looking for a Power Electronics Engineer in its Avionics department in Belgium. You will support or lead the design of electrical power systems for spacecraft missions, covering the whole development chain from converter design and analysis through integration, test, operations and maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Support or lead electrical power systems design for spacecraft missions
• Support converter design and analysis, integration, test, operations and maintenance
• Take part in design reviews to ensure requirements and interface compliance
• Work with external electronics and magnetics providers to review designs, resolve issues and define integration and test approaches
• Support subsystem development with flight software/FPGA and mechanical/thermal engineers
• Develop test plans for power supplies
• Depending on experience, drive full projects and lead a multidisciplinary team

Required profile

• MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field
• 3+ years of experience designing power supplies, including power circuits, regulation circuits and filters, with PCB routing and tests
• Experience leading in-house and subcontractor component and subassembly design
• Experience with diagnosis, debug and component, assembly and system-level testing
• Good English

Required skills

• Spice simulation of switching converters (switching transients, stability analysis)
• Knowledge of common non-isolated and isolated converter topologies
• Magnetics design and implementation
• Nice to have: resonant converter topologies, EMC/EMI design and testing, and proficiency with common electronic design software
