Senior Engineer - Vehicle Dynamics Control
Aidoptation · Sint-Truiden
Job description
About the role
Aidoptation develops autonomous driving software for high-speed (120 kph) driving, with its EdgeDrive stack based on deterministic, rule-based control. It holds the first authorisation to test Level 4 autonomy on public highways up to the speed limit. As a startup, the company moves fast and keeps work close to real vehicles on real roads. The role owns the development of lateral and longitudinal control for high-speed automated driving.
Key responsibilities
- Develop lateral and longitudinal control, turning planned motion into safe, smooth and dynamically stable vehicle behaviour, including trajectory tracking, stability control and safety-critical maneuvers.
- Design control architectures that perform reliably under real-world actuation and vehicle constraints, using feedforward and feedback methods, MPC-style control, gain scheduling and constraint handling.
- Define the metrics and safety envelopes used to evaluate controller quality.
- Build and maintain the integration layer between planning and the vehicle, translating trajectories into robust steering, brake and powertrain commands with proper handling of rate limits, actuator dynamics and diagnostics.
- Establish repeatable tuning, validation and regression workflows across simulation, HIL and vehicle testing.
- Work closely with planning, localization and systems teams to mature the stack into a production-ready control capability for high-speed highway ADAS.
Required profile
- MSc in Control, Mechanical, Automotive, Robotics or similar, with 5+ years of equivalent industry experience, or a PhD with 3+ years of equivalent experience.
- Strong fundamentals in vehicle dynamics, tire modelling, stability and control theory.
- Hands-on experience shipping control software in C++ and/or MATLAB/Simulink, with disciplined testing and calibration.
- Experience with simulation and validation workflows (SIL/HIL) and real-vehicle testing.
- Valid EU driving licence; right to work in the EU (visa sponsorship not available).
- Fluent English (Dutch is a plus); startup mentality, comfortable in Linux environments.
Required skills
- C++ and/or MATLAB/Simulink
- SIL/HIL simulation and validation
- ROS 2 (strong plus)
- Nice to have: MPC toolchains, real-time optimisation, ISO 26262 and ISO 21448, CAN/CAN-FD, Automotive Ethernet, PTP/NTP
