AV Hardware Engineer - Electrical Design & Autonomy Integration

About the role

Aidoptation develops autonomous driving software for high-speed (120 kph) driving, with its EdgeDrive stack built on deterministic, rule-based control. It holds the first authorisation to test Level 4 autonomy on public highways up to the speed limit. As a startup, the company moves fast and keeps work close to real vehicles on real roads. This full-time position in Sint-Truiden involves designing, building and integrating the hardware package of autonomous vehicles.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build the hardware package of autonomous vehicles, including 3D CAD design of components that house and mount sensors and electronics, iterating through prototyping and 3D printing.
• Create electrical schematics, dimension components and design PCBs where needed.
• Program and configure electronic components such as ECUs and microcontrollers, working closely with the software team.
• Support vehicle bring-up, troubleshooting and on-track testing; regular travel to test sites may be required.
• Take ownership across different areas in a small, fast-growing team, and over time own the design and integration of the vehicle hardware platforms.

Required profile

• Electrical schematics, design and reading of electrical diagrams, with a focus on automotive wiring harnesses and connectors.
• Electrical dimensioning and integration of components within complex systems.
• PCB design, basic to intermediate experience.
• Foundational understanding of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
• Driving licence valid in the EU; right to work in the EU (visa sponsorship not available).
• Fluent English (Dutch is a plus); previous automotive or motorsport experience is a plus.

Required skills

• LiDAR, radar, camera-based perception systems and GPS.
• Programming of ECUs and electronic components (Matlab/Simulink and Python are a plus).
• 3D CAD design (3D printing experience a plus).
