Full-time doctoral researcher for SMART-ETHIC project

About the role

The Louvain research institute for Landscape, Architecture, Built environment (LAB) at UCLouvain offers a PhD scholarship to develop simulations of smart energy transition decisions affecting building owners and end‑users.

Key responsibilities

• Map state‑of‑the‑art policies, governance schemes, technical standards and business models related to smart energy transition.
• Extract patterns of ownership and governance, abstract rules and build a Knowledge Base using OntoAgency vocabulary.
• Implement the Knowledge Base in Protégé with OWL/RDF and represent decisions through case studies.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (minimum 300 ECTS) in Architecture, Engineering, Energy Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent with top‑tier grades.
• Strong ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team, with excellent English communication skills.

Required skills

• Energy modelling and building performance simulation (e.g., EnergyPlus, EMS).
• Programming in Python or R.
• Ontology development and use (e.g., BIM, SAREF, BRICK, Project Haystack, BOT) with Protégé, OWL/RDF.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term full‑time contract for 24 months, renewable for another 24 months.
• Net monthly stipend of approximately €2,500.
• Opportunity to work onsite in Louvain‑la‑Neuve with public‑transport travel covered.
