Part‑time Academic in Sign Language (LSFB) Translation & Interpreting

About the role

The University of Louvain (UCLouvain) seeks a part‑time (50% FTE) academic to teach, research and provide community service in Belgian French Sign Language (LSFB) translation and interpreting. The position is based on the Saint‑Louis campus in Brussels and is tenure‑track.

Key responsibilities

• Teach bachelor‑level courses covering LSFB, introduction to interpreting and possibly LSFB linguistics.
• Develop research within the IRIS‑L Institute and TranSphères centre, supervise doctoral theses and aim to create interdisciplinary links.
• After tenure, coordinate the faculty’s Sign Language unit, serve on program committees, examination boards and contribute to societal outreach.

Required profile

• PhD in Languages, Literature or Translation Studies with a specialization in sign language, preferably interpreting.
• Demonstrated mastery of Belgian French Sign Language (LSFB) and excellent command of French.
• Proven university teaching record, international‑level publications and research stay abroad.

Required skills

• Fluency in LSFB (Belgian French Sign Language).
• High proficiency in French (C2) and English (B2 or commitment to reach B2).
• Ability to integrate research results into teaching and to manage research projects.
