About the role

The Political Affairs Officer will support the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary‑General for Children and Armed Conflict (OSRSG‑CAAC) from its Brussels Liaison Office. Reporting through the Special Assistant to the Under‑Secretary‑General, the incumbent will help mainstream child‑protection concerns across a range of intergovernmental bodies and partner organisations.

Key responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain working relationships with Member States, UN offices, EU institutions, NGOs and other partners such as NATO, the Council of Europe and OSCE to integrate CAAC priorities.
  • Monitor implementation of CAAC recommendations from intergovernmental bodies in Brussels, Geneva, Vienna and Strasbourg and provide regular updates to the OSRSG‑CAAC.
  • Analyse and disseminate information on children and armed conflict to relevant entities, ensuring timely and strategic communication.
  • Prepare analytical reports, background papers, talking points, speeches and correspondence for senior UN officials on sensitive CAAC matters.
  • Act as focal point for political information collection and analysis related to CAAC across multiple European locations.
  • Provide up‑to‑date political briefings to the OSRSG‑CAAC in New York and recommend actions on country or regional issues.
  • Participate in conferences, seminars and academic fora on CAAC topics and support Secretariat services for the Security Council and other bodies as required.

Required profile

  • Proven experience in political analysis and intergovernmental relations, preferably within the United Nations system.
  • Strong understanding of UN mechanisms, Security Council processes and child‑protection mandates.
  • Excellent drafting, reporting and briefing skills for senior‑level audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across Europe and internationally.
