IT Area Lead – Digital First

About the role

ING is looking for an IT Area Lead for Digital First, reporting to the IT Lead for Channels. The role shapes the digital journeys through which customers interact with ING, covering the full product lifecycle from opening to closing. It leads the Digital First Management Team and covers two business lines: Daily Banking – Client First and Payments & Cards. The team includes 4 Chapter Leads, 14 indirect reports, 43 engineers in the Philippines and 68 external staff in Belgium and India.

Key responsibilities

• Lead multiple chapters and teams, translating strategic objectives into a technology and delivery roadmap aligned with ING Belgium and ING Group ambitions.
• Own end-to-end customer journeys across Daily Banking and Payments & Cards, working with business stakeholders so value stays central.
• Partner with Core Banking and enterprise architecture teams to prepare the Digital First landscape for the New Banking Platform migration.
• Balance innovation, risk management, resilience, compliance and operational stability while driving delivery excellence.
• Clarify priorities, dependencies, risks and trade-offs in a complex stakeholder environment.
• Coach and develop the team, foster collaboration and ownership, and represent the area within Tech Belgium and to senior business stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large teams in a complex, fast-paced technology environment.
• 10+ years of people management experience, including multi-site multinational teams.
• Engineering background and understanding of the ING software delivery process.
• Project management experience.
• Ability to turn business strategy into technology outcomes and roadmaps, and to balance long-term transformation with short-term delivery.
• Effective communicator able to connect executives, business experts, architects and engineers.
• Proficiency in English; Dutch and French are a plus.
