Director of Sustainability & Environment

About the role

MedTech Europe is seeking a Director of Sustainability & Environment to shape the association’s voice in European sustainability debates. You will influence policy, support the transition to sustainable healthcare, and ensure continued access to innovative medical technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead priority sustainability and environmental policy portfolios such as circular economy, waste management, decarbonisation, and ESG reporting.
• Develop and promote strategic industry positions on the EU Green Deal and related legislation.
• Act as the primary spokesperson on sustainability and environmental topics for MedTech Europe.
• Maintain strong relationships with EU institutions, policymakers, regulators, and sustainability stakeholders.
• Build coalitions with industry associations, cross‑sector alliances, and environmental platforms.
• Support members in forming consensus positions and engage with them at technical, policy, and board levels.
• Foster a purpose‑driven team culture, support staff development, and ensure agile internal processes.
• Provide sustainability expertise across policy areas and integrate ESG priorities into the broader association strategy.
• Monitor EU policy developments, deliver forward‑looking insights, and coordinate intelligence sharing.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in Environmental Affairs, Healthcare, EU institutions or industry.
• Master’s degree in Environmental, Biomedical, Natural, Political or Social Sciences (or equivalent).
• Deep knowledge of EU environmental, chemical and healthcare legislation.
• Proven track record of leading projects and reporting to diverse audiences.
• Experience building and leading high‑performing teams.
• Demonstrated ability to operate effectively at senior level.
