Staff Assistant (Illustrator)

About the role

The Reprographic Services Section at SHAPE is looking for a Staff Assistant (Illustrator) to support the creation, production and distribution of high‑quality visual designs. You will work in a secure environment, collaborating with internal clients and stakeholders to turn concepts into polished illustrations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare rough drafts and refine designs using illustration software, applying colors and effects to visualise concepts.
• Operate printing, reproduction and illustration equipment, including the Valiani mat‑cutting machine.
• Process work requests for reproduction and illustrations, ensuring timely delivery.
• Attend training on assigned machinery and maintain proficiency.
• Monitor and manage graphic supplies, notifying the reprographics technician when levels are critical.
• Follow security standards for handling classified or sensitive material.
• Participate in relevant meetings, training sessions or courses.
• Create visually compelling illustrations that combine hand‑drawing, painting and digital media.

Required profile

• Secondary education with at least two years of relevant experience.
• Willingness to deploy or undertake TDY assignments up to 180 days.
• Ability to work efficiently under production deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
• Experience in digital sketching and image‑editing software.
• Knowledge of basic networking, colour management and paper management.
• Understanding of various printing techniques (digital, sign, large‑ and small‑format).
• Familiarity with mat‑cutting equipment (Valiani).
