Job description
About the role
AMOS (Advanced Mechanical & Optical Systems), based in Liège and part of the Belgian satellite manufacturer Aerospacelab, develops ultra-high opto-mechanical systems for space and professional astronomy, including the Very High Resolution (VHR) optical payloads of Earth observation satellites. It is looking for a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer (M/F) within its Mechanical Design division, assigned to the VHR payload team. The engineer is responsible for the design, manufacturing follow-up and acceptance inspection of the opto-mechanical part of the payload and acts as the opto-mechanical reference of the team.
Key responsibilities
- Analyse opto-mechanical requirements and ensure they are met during design
- Design assemblies such as mirror mounts and flexures, metering structures, focal plane interfaces, baffles and mechanisms
- Select materials and components (mirror substrates SiC, Zerodur, ULE, CFRP and Invar structures, bearings, bonded joints, fasteners)
- Justify the design against launch loads, thermal gradients and gravity release, support STOP analyses, define alignment and adjustment concepts, and specify integration tooling and metrology means
- Draft specifications, follow up subcontractors and the manufacturing of critical parts (lightweighting, bonding, coating)
- Take charge of integration, alignment and validation, and support vibration and thermal-vacuum test campaigns
- Contribute to the modular VHR product line, review junior engineers' designs and share design rules
- Produce the required technical documentation
Required profile
- Master's degree in Electromechanical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent, with at least 8 years of experience in opto-mechanical or precision mechanical design
- Space field experience required; experience on optical instruments or VHR payloads is a strong asset
- Understanding of how mounts, materials and thermal gradients affect wavefront error and line-of-sight drift
- Minimum English level B1
Required skills
- CAD software, ideally CATIA V5 or NX
- FEM analysis (Nastran or SAMCEF solvers in the SIMCENTER environment)
- Precision metrology (interferometry, CMM, laser tracker) and clean room practice
- Familiarity with ECSS standards
What we offer
- A permanent position
- A flat hierarchy and a fast-paced environment
- Flexible ways of working
- A salary package consistent with experience
