Academic in Mathematics/Statistics/Data Science applied to Economics

About the role

UCLouvain seeks a full‑time academic to teach quantitative methods and conduct research at the intersection of mathematics, statistics, data science and economics. The position is based on the Saint‑Louis campus in Brussels.

Key responsibilities

• Teach quantitative methods, especially mathematics, to bachelor programmes in Economics, Management and Management Engineering.
• Develop research within the Centre for Applied Economics (CAPE), supervise PhD theses and pursue external funding from national and European sources.
• Participate in university service activities such as programme or examination committees and contribute to societal projects in economics, social or development cooperation.

Required profile

• PhD in Science, Engineering or Technology with a focus on applied mathematics, statistics or data science.
• Proven university teaching experience with positive evaluations.
• Fluent French (C2) and very good English.

Required skills

• Experience with large economic and management datasets.
• Statistical analysis and processing, including machine‑learning techniques.
• Scientific publications in mathematics, statistics, intelligent systems or related fields, with relevance to economics or management.

• Tenure‑track position leading to permanent tenure after a probationary period (typically four years) with a public‑sector pension.

• Teaching load capped at 90 hours per year before tenure, 150 hours after tenure.
