Junior Professor in Metabolism and Associated Diseases

About the role

We are seeking a Junior Professor to lead an international research program on metabolic diseases, such as obesity, gut‑brain axis, or MASLD. The role combines high‑level research, teaching, and service within the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and expand a research program on metabolism and associated diseases.
• Strengthen existing lines, initiate national and international collaborations, and acquire competitive funding.
• Publish in top‑tier journals and supervise master, PhD, and post‑doctoral researchers.
• Deliver high‑quality teaching in metabolism, supervise master theses, and promote PhD students.
• Provide scientific, social, and internal service to enhance the department’s reputation.

Required profile

• PhD in biomedical sciences, biology, biochemistry or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years post‑doctoral experience in metabolism research.
• Strong publication record in prominent journals and proven research integrity.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise students and lead projects.
• Organizational skills, cooperative attitude, and leadership capacity within a university setting.
• Proficiency in Dutch will be supported by language training.

Required skills

• Experience with animal models.
• Cell biology assay expertise.
• Knowledge of omics techniques (preferred).
