Junior Payroll Purser

About the role

The Junior Payroll Purser works onboard, supporting the Administration Purser – Payroll & T&A in delivering accurate payroll services and crew financial assistance. This role involves direct interaction with crew members, requiring strong customer‑service orientation and confidentiality.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with payroll processing, calculating, verifying and balancing all pay components.
• Validate gratuity and supplemental payment uploads, ensuring timely approvals and compliance.
• Support payroll audits and manage the time‑keeping system administration.
• Manage crew receivables, collect payments and minimise bad debt.
• Maintain crew office hours to handle SeaPass, payroll, Salary@Sea, collections and foreign‑exchange inquiries.
• Handle and balance a daily cash float while safeguarding financial information.
• Provide HR support by sharing crew‑related issues and maintaining accurate handover notes.
• Uphold safety, security and regulatory standards, participating in drills and training.

Required profile

• High school diploma or vocational training.
• At least 1 year of payroll or accounting experience in hospitality or finance (preferred).
• Minimum 6 months cash‑handling experience, preferably with US currency.
• Strong administrative, analytical and basic accounting/bookkeeping abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining confidentiality.
• Excellent English speaking, reading and writing skills.
• Potential for growth into leadership roles.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office (Access, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Intermediate Excel skills, including financial, mathematical and lookup functions.
