Financial Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a Financial Accountant to join a leading Belgian financial institution on a consultancy basis. The role involves maintaining accurate financial records, preparing statutory financial statements and ensuring compliance with local and international accounting standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
• Manage month‑end and year‑end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations and accruals.
• Perform balance‑sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
• Prepare and submit VAT, tax and statutory reports in line with Belgian regulatory requirements.
• Support the annual audit by providing information and responding to auditor queries.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting regulations and identify process‑improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 3–5 years of financial accounting experience within the financial services sector.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and Belgian GAAP.
• Proven experience with month‑end close, financial reporting and statutory accounts.
