Academic in Architecture and Design of Dwelling – Social & Cultural Dimensions

About the role

The Faculty of Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Urban Planning and the LAB research institute at UCLouvain seeks a full‑time academic to teach, research and serve the community on the social and cultural dimensions of dwelling design.

Key responsibilities

• Teach architectural design courses that integrate sociological, anthropological and cultural perspectives on dwelling across urban, peri‑urban and rural contexts.
• Supervise master’s theses and, once tenured, PhD dissertations.
• Lead research programmes on emancipation, coexistence, social inclusion and alternative housing forms, including participatory and co‑production processes.
• Contribute to faculty and institute service committees, programme committees and societal outreach projects.

Required profile

• PhD with a dissertation focused on dwelling design that addresses spatial, social and cultural issues.
• Degree in architecture or architectural engineering (or a closely related field) and a proven record of university teaching.
• International research experience, demonstrated by publications of international standing and an extended stay abroad.

Required skills

• Ability to integrate research results into teaching and to manage research teams.
• Experience in architectural design studio teaching with emphasis on social, political and cultural dimensions.
• Proficiency in French and English (or commitment to acquire both within two years).
