Upstream Process Engineer

About the role

Vulcain Engineering Belgium is seeking an Upstream Process Engineer to join its consulting team. You will act as the single point of contact for customers, designing equipment packages and optimizing upstream cell culture and fermentation processes.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop upstream equipment packages and optimize cell culture and fermentation processes.
• Support FAT/SAT activities, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to test equipment at vendor sites and on‑site, and document results.
• Troubleshoot process‑related and technical issues to ensure optimal production performance.
• Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including user requirements, design qualification protocols, and reports.
• Ensure all processes comply with regulatory requirements and cGMP industry standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, biochemical engineering, biotechnology or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in upstream equipment design within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
• Fluency in Dutch and English.
