Team Lead – Java Development

About the role

Guardsquare is seeking an R&D Team Lead for its Leuven office to head a DexGuard (Java) team. You will manage a group of 5‑7 Java engineers in an agile environment, translating product needs into technical solutions while fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Own the results delivered by the team and ensure high‑quality, timely delivery.
• Lead day‑to‑day development activities: assign tasks, track progress, and enforce coding standards.
• Mentor engineers, promote collaboration and motivate the team toward company and personal goals.
• Define and uphold best practices for maintainable code.
• Work closely with product teams to convert business requirements into technical specifications.
• Implement and enforce testing practices for reliable software.
• Drive engineering process improvements and encourage innovative ideas.
• Represent Guardsquare’s R&D values, products, and culture.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science with 5+ years of experience, including at least 3 years as a Team Lead.
• Proven track record of delivering results with software teams.
• Experience setting performance goals and conducting appraisals.
• Strong programming fundamentals and excellent English communication.
• Pragmatic, no‑nonsense attitude with a focus on raising standards.
• Understanding of the importance of in‑person leadership within a hybrid work setting.
