Standards and Ethics Editor

About the role

POLITICO is looking for an experienced editor of impeccable judgment to lead its growing global standards and ethics team and safeguard the integrity of its journalism across all platforms. This hands-on senior editor works side by side with reporters and assigning editors on sourcing and reporting questions, helps journalists resolve difficult ethical issues, and provides a final edit on sensitive content such as stories, blog posts and newsletter items. The role may be based in Brussels or London, with collaboration across Europe, North America and Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a hands-on editor giving pre-publication guidance on reporting
• Provide a final edit on sensitive content
• Address and resolve journalism-related issues after publication
• Help research and write newsroom policies and stylebook entries
• Assist in designing training programs for journalists
• Ensure quality controls are in place across the newsroom

Required profile

• Written and verbal fluency in English
• Ability to handle several tasks calmly under pressure
• Willingness to collaborate with journalists and help broker solutions to challenging situations
• Excellent judgment and reasoning skills
• Experience editing complicated and sensitive stories preferred
