Energy and Climate Correspondent, Europe

About the role

POLITICO is looking for a journalist with experience in energy and climate policy to lead contributions and ideas from Europe for its global team. The role feeds into Surge, POLITICO's new global daily newsletter on the political and policy implications of the energy transition and rising power demand, which speaks to politicians, industry decision-makers and advocacy groups across Europe and North America.

Key responsibilities

• Report, write or edit as part of a global team of energy and climate journalists.
• Contribute original ideas and reporting to Surge on a daily basis.
• Work closely with colleagues in Brussels, London, Paris and Berlin to reflect the depth of energy and climate reporting across Europe, partnering with the lead author and editors.
• Produce journalism across a range of energy and climate topics that impacts POLITICO across newsletters and platforms.

Required profile

• At least five years' newsroom experience.
• Strong understanding of European energy and climate politics, ideally at both EU and national level.
• Written fluency in English; French and/or German is a strong plus.
• A smart, clear thinker who can spot trends and tensions early and narrate them for a global audience.
• A collaborator who works well across teams and time zones, and is motivated to build new coverage lines and workflows in a growing newsroom.
