Senior Principal Scientist Pharmacology

About the role

The Senior Principal Scientist Pharmacology leads the scientific strategy for 3Rs innovation within Johnson & Johnson’s Scientific & In Vivo Strategies (SIS). This senior position focuses on integrating new approach methodologies (NAMs) into discovery and pre‑clinical programs to improve translatability and reduce animal use.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate ex vivo, in vitro and in silico NAM opportunities relevant to discovery and development programs.
• Provide expert guidance on the applicability, strengths, limitations and readiness of NAMs for specific disease areas and modalities.
• Drive incorporation of NAMs into program strategies, ensuring alignment with portfolio goals and the enterprise 3Rs framework.
• Maintain active awareness of external NAM landscape, regulatory trends and emerging technologies.
• Serve as the subject‑matter expert for SIS, DPDS and therapeutic‑area stakeholders, facilitating internal and external collaborations.

Required profile

• Senior scientific experience in pharmacology and pre‑clinical research.
• Deep expertise in new approach methodologies, including refined in vivo, ex vivo, complex in vitro models, microphysiological systems and in silico approaches.
• Proven ability to engage cross‑functional teams and influence strategic decisions.
• Strong understanding of the 3Rs principles and regulatory considerations.

• In silico modeling and computational approaches.
