Senior HR Legal & Employee Relations Officer

About the role

The Group HR Legal & Social Relations team is looking for a senior professional to manage both individual HR legal cases and employee‑relations matters across the organisation. You will act as the primary legal advisor to HR and business partners, ensuring compliance with Belgian and European labour legislation while supporting strategic social dialogue.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel on terminations, career‑transition solutions, contract changes, mergers & acquisitions and other complex HR legal files.
• Lead working groups with works councils, unions and other social partners on topics such as overtime, holidays, flexible schedules, policy updates and emerging technologies, aiming for consensus before reporting outcomes.
• Coordinate multi‑country HR legal projects, including employee handbook updates, contract reviews, work‑permit queries and pension matters.
• Advise line managers and People Partners on working‑time regulations, watch‑duty regimes and related compliance issues.
• Monitor new labour‑law developments, recommend policy adjustments and ensure implementation, with a particular focus on GDPR compliance.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with at least 8 years of experience in Belgian labour law or employee relations, gained in consultancy, law firms or large HR teams.
• Strong interest in HR, solid business acumen and the ability to view issues from a strategic perspective.
• Proven autonomy, sound decision‑making and the capacity to deliver high‑quality support to internal stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, assertive yet diplomatic.
• Comfortable handling complex employee‑relations cases.
