Satellite Systems Engineer

About the role

Aerospacelab designs and manufactures small satellites and develops earth observation services. As a Satellite Systems Engineer you will lead the technical development of satellites and platforms from early concepts to in-orbit deployment, working closely with the project manager to meet customer needs. The role focuses on one of three mission types: in-orbit demonstrators (mostly first-time customers, Earth observation), constellations (established operators, mostly telecommunications), or in-orbit follow-up of flying missions.

Key responsibilities

• Define the overall satellite architecture and design, including system requirements and budget exercises, subsystem selection and trade-offs, and system integration
• Proactively manage technical risks
• Act as chief engineer, coordinating development across subsystems and domains and ensuring system consistency and information sharing
• Work with unit teams to improve industrial efficiency
• Support test procedures, integration, test campaigns, launch and in-orbit commissioning
• Support programmatic aspects such as customer interface, configuration management and development plans

Required profile

• At least 8 years of professional experience in satellite engineering, directly as a systems engineer or in another discipline requiring full-system understanding (AOCS, mechanical/structural, thermal, power and avionics)
• Excellent oral and written communication and organisational skills
• Problem-solving mindset and willingness to make technical decisions despite incomplete information or risk
• Willingness to challenge the status quo of the European space industry

• Experience with telecom payloads
• Hands-on satellite assembly, integration and test campaigns
