Postdoctoral Researcher in Multimodal AI for Breast Radiology

About the role

The Laboratory for Translational Cell and Tissue Research at KU Leuven seeks a motivated postdoctoral researcher to lead the development of multimodal AI methods for breast radiology and digital pathology. You will work within an interdisciplinary team of clinicians and computational scientists on the M4GIC-ILC project, focusing on invasive lobular carcinoma.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, fine‑tune and benchmark foundation models for mammography, MRI and ultrasound.
• Create robust lesion‑, image‑ and patient‑level representations that handle inter‑hospital and scanner variability.
• Integrate radiology embeddings with digital pathology features for diagnosis, staging, prognosis and treatment‑response modelling.
• Design and execute rigorous internal and external validation, including cross‑site benchmarking and uncertainty estimation.
• Produce reproducible, well‑documented software and maintain data‑analysis pipelines.
• Collaborate with radiologists, pathologists, computational scientists and international consortium partners, and disseminate results through publications and presentations.

Required profile

• PhD in computer science, AI, biomedical engineering, medical imaging, bioinformatics, statistics or a related computational field.
• Strong publication record appropriate to a postdoctoral level.
• Proven experience in radiology image analysis, preferably with DICOM and breast‑imaging modalities (mammography, ultrasound, MRI).
• Ability to take intellectual and technical ownership of an ambitious research project while working in an interdisciplinary, international team.
