Lab Technician - BioImaging Core (Electron Microscopy)

About the role

The VIB BioImaging Core in Ghent is a core facility with instrumentation for light and electron microscopy, known for developing correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) approaches. It supports the 1900 researchers at VIB by consulting, training and collaborating with users on experimental design, image acquisition and image analysis. The institute is looking for a motivated lab technician to join the team, focused on electron microscopy sample preparation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain standard stock solutions
• Maintain cell lines and prepare cell-based experiments
• Operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment
• Train users on basic light microscopy setups
• Support general lab organisation: managing stocks of antibodies, buffers, plasmids and lab products and placing orders
• Routine sample preparation for electron microscopy
• Regular immunohistochemistry sample preparation on cells and tissue

Required profile

• Professional bachelor or MSc in biochemical, biomedical or biotechnological laboratory techniques, or equivalent
• Excellent manual dexterity and experience in small sample dissection and handling
• Service-oriented, able to work independently and flexible, with strong social and communication skills
• Highly organised, detail-oriented and willing to learn new techniques and take responsibility
• Proficiency in written and spoken English

Required skills

• Experience in cell culture, basic light or electron microscopy, or sample preparation for microscopy is an asset but not strictly required
