Downstream Process Engineer

About the role

Vulcain Engineering Belgium is seeking a Downstream Process Engineer to join its consulting team. The engineer will act as the single point of contact for customers, designing equipment packages and optimizing downstream operations such as purification, HETP and buffer preparation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead process development and serve as the customer’s SPOC for downstream equipment design.
• Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) together with cross‑functional teams, documenting all activities in protocols and reports.
• Troubleshoot and resolve process‑related technical issues to maintain optimal production performance.
• Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including user requirements, design qualification protocols and compliance reports.
• Ensure all processes meet regulatory requirements and cGMP industry standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, biochemical engineering, biotechnology or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in downstream equipment design within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
• Fluency in Dutch and English.
• Experience with purification equipment; knowledge of automation systems is a plus.
