Director of Quality – Aerospace Manufacturing

About the role

The client is establishing a new aerospace production site in Belgium and seeks a senior Director of Quality to define and lead the quality strategy. This freelance position reports to senior management and will build a world‑class Quality Management System while ensuring compliance with aerospace standards in a highly automated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain the site’s Quality Management System (QMS).
• Lead EN9100/AS9100 and ISO 9001 certification programmes and ensure Nadcap compliance.
• Oversee quality across machining, heat treatment, chemical processing, NDT and metrology operations.
• Deploy and manage quality tools such as APQP, PPAP, FAI, SPC, MSA, FMEA, 8D and QRQC.
• Conduct supplier quality audits, develop suppliers and manage supplier quality performance.
• Build, coach and lead a dedicated Quality team.
• Represent Quality with customers, certification bodies and senior leadership.
• Support equipment qualification and integration of quality into automated production lines.

Required profile

• Engineering degree (Quality, Mechanical, Materials or related).
• 10–15 years of industrial quality experience, including at least 5 years in a management role.
• Proven experience in aerospace or another highly regulated sector (defence, medical, etc.).
• Fluent in French and English.

Required skills

• EN9100 / AS9100, ISO 9001, Nadcap.
• APQP, PPAP, FAI (AS9102), SPC, MSA, FMEA, 8D, QRQC.
• Non‑destructive testing (NDT) and dimensional metrology.
• Supplier quality management and audit execution.
• Six Sigma Black Belt or auditor certification (advantage).
