Director General – International Trade Agency

About the role

The Belgian Foreign Trade Agency (BFTA) seeks a visionary Director General to lead its mission of promoting Belgium’s economic presence worldwide. Reporting to the Agency’s Board and acting as its chief ambassador, you will steer high‑level economic missions, state‑visit components and daily operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and set the overall direction of the BFTA.
• Organise and supervise Belgian economic missions and the economic aspects of State Visits.
• Manage the Agency’s financial governance, budgeting and resource allocation.
• Represent the BFTA to national and international stakeholders, including government, diplomatic and business partners.
• Ensure compliance with Belgium’s institutional framework and uphold the Agency’s public‑service mandate.

Required profile

• 10‑15 years of senior managerial experience, preferably in a public‑sector or international trade environment.
• Deep knowledge of Belgium’s institutional and diplomatic structures.
• Extensive international experience with strong diplomatic acumen.
• Fluency in French, Dutch and English.
• Master’s degree, preferably with an economic focus.
