Data Center Facilities Technician II, Electrical

About the role

The Data Center Facilities Technician II, Electrical supports the operation of Google’s highly sophisticated data center environments. You will work onsite, assisting senior technicians, reading blueprints, and ensuring that electrical and mechanical systems run safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and support physical facilities including power distribution, generators, UPS, and HVAC systems.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair piping, non‑critical electrical and mechanical components.
• Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to assess system conditions.
• Develop cost‑reduction approaches while maintaining safety and environmental standards.
• Respond to emergencies and performance issues to minimize downtime.
• Coordinate with contractors performing upgrades or maintenance.

Required profile

• Associate's degree, trade certification, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of mission‑critical facility maintenance and operations experience.
• Experience with electrical distribution systems.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb and use safety equipment (platforms, ladders, PPE, harnesses).
• Willingness to work non‑standard hours and shift rotations.
• Preferred experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.

Required skills

• Knowledge of feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS, ATS/STS, PDU/PMM units.
• Proficiency with meters, sensors, digital metering, and calibration/diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems using hand tools and diagnostic devices.
• Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics.
• Effective communication with contractors and team members.
