About the role
The Defence Industry, Innovation and Armaments Division (D2IA) seeks a Technical Specialist to support the MSIAC Project Office in the field of munitions safety. The incumbent will respond to technical enquiries, develop reports and databases, and represent NATO at international safety events.
Key responsibilities
- Analyse technical enquiries from MSIAC member nations and produce clear technical articles, reports and briefings.
- Develop and maintain databases, tools and presentations for munitions safety assessments.
- Organise and contribute to MSIAC workshops, technical meetings and international conferences.
- Promote best‑practice safety standards for programmable elements, safety‑critical software, and electronic arming devices.
- Support policy development and advise on safety requirements for loitering munitions and one‑way effectors.
Required profile
- University degree in science or engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with munitions system‑safety concepts, standards and analysis.
- Proactive, innovative approach to conventional munitions safety.
- Advanced English proficiency (NATO level V) and beginner French (NATO level I).
Required skills
- Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FME(C)A).
- Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
- Reliability Test Analysis (RTA).
- Assessment of battery systems and safety‑critical software.
- Knowledge of munition initiation systems and electronic safety/arming devices.
- Understanding of loitering munitions design and one‑way effectors.
- Safety requirements and design principles for munitions and subsystems.
- Familiarity with energetic materials.
- Ability to develop software and electronic tools for safety analysis.
