About the role

This remote‑first position sits at the core of a global payments infrastructure platform. As a Staff Software Engineer, Backend you will design and scale the backend systems that power high‑volume, mission‑critical financial transactions while shaping technical direction across multiple engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive backend engineering strategy across several teams, aligning architecture with scalability and product goals.
• Design, build, and evolve resilient distributed systems that support global payment flows and partner integrations.
• Act as the technical authority for third‑party PSP and partner connectivity, ensuring seamless integration experiences.
• Influence engineering practices through design reviews, code contributions, and mentorship.
• Identify and resolve cross‑team dependencies and technical bottlenecks before they affect delivery.
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to shape roadmap priorities based on technical constraints and opportunities.

Required profile

• Proven experience operating at a staff or principal engineer level in complex, distributed systems environments.
• Strong track record of building and scaling backend services for high‑throughput, mission‑critical applications.
• Deep understanding of payments infrastructure, developer platforms, or complex integration systems.
• Ability to influence technical direction across teams without formal authority.
