Senior Strategic Buyer - Indirect Procurement

About the role

Lonza is looking for a Senior Strategic Buyer to join its Indirect Procurement team in Bornem. You will lead end-to-end indirect procurement across sites and categories, driving business continuity, cost competitiveness and supplier performance. The role involves executing global and regional procurement strategies, partnering with site and functional stakeholders, and covering Bornem as a back-up for the Colmar site in France.

Key responsibilities

• Lead indirect procurement in Bornem and cover the Colmar site's delegated spend categories, including Professional Services & Consulting, Facility Management, MRO and Spare Parts, Utilities & Technical Services, IT, HR, Marketing, Packaging, Capex and others.
• Drive strategic sourcing, including tendering, negotiation and contracting for complex categories, and implement global and regional category strategies locally.
• Manage supplier relationships and performance, ensuring service, quality, delivery, safety and sustainability standards.
• Deliver cost savings, cost avoidance and value creation through sourcing and demand management.
• Partner with site and functional stakeholders to turn their needs into sourcing strategies.
• Develop the Bornem operational buyer and foster a high-performance culture.
• Ensure compliance with global procurement policies, audit requirements and systems such as SAP and Ariba.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in indirect procurement in chemicals, pharmaceuticals, engineering or manufacturing.
• Background in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiation and category management for indirect spend.
• Experience in a matrixed, global organisation with strong stakeholder management.
• Postgraduate degree in Supply Chain, Procurement, Operations or Business; engineering background is an advantage.
• Fluent English and Dutch required; French is a nice to have.
