Senior Network Security Governance Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Network Security Governance Engineer to lead and continuously improve our enterprise firewall governance framework. This freelance position will involve close collaboration with security, infrastructure and architecture teams to ensure robust network protection and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Own and enhance the firewall governance framework, including policy validation and recertification.
• Review firewall policy requests against security standards, business requirements, and regulations such as DORA, NIS2 and ISO 27001.
• Administer and optimise Palo Alto Networks firewalls and Panorama, performing rule clean‑up and segmentation initiatives.
• Support internal and external security audits, coordinate remediation, and produce governance reporting, KPIs and dashboards.
• Conduct risk assessments for network security changes and act as escalation point for complex incidents.
• Automate reporting and operational processes using scripting, APIs and tooling.
• Assist cloud and hybrid network security projects in Azure and AWS environments.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience in network security engineering.
• 5+ years hands‑on with Palo Alto Networks technologies and Panorama.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, SSL/TLS and IPsec.
• Experience supporting security audits, compliance activities and risk assessments.
• Fluent English with strong stakeholder management skills.
