Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Lonza is hiring a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Bornem. The engineer designs mechanical assemblies, from 3D conceptual models through calculations and simulations to detailed manufacturing drawings and buy-part specifications, as part of global technology development and within a project team. The role uses advanced software tools for FEA and motion simulations.

Key responsibilities

• Translate customer requirements into innovative designs and take part in design reviews.
• Help assemble prototype designs and use the learnings to optimise the final product.
• Ensure design specifications are transferred smoothly to manufacturing facilities.
• Focus on safety and environmental aspects such as noise reduction, while keeping products robust and easy to maintain.
• Identify wear parts early and minimise them, balancing investment against repair and maintenance costs.
• Produce accurate assembly and detailed drawings and parts lists, with proper electronic filing and database management.
• Request quotes for fabrication and trade purchase items and follow up on deliveries to guarantee component quality.
• Act as the internal expert for the CAD software, safeguard drawing standards and handle Design Change Requests promptly.
• Coach, support and train temporary contract draftsmen.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• 10 years of experience in mechanical design.
• Extensive experience in modern machinery development and proven interest in new technologies.
• Fluency in Dutch and English.

• Full-time annual base pay in Belgium expected between 75,000 and 105,000 EUR, depending on experience and qualifications.
