Senior Java Developer (AI Augmented)

About the role

Devoteam Creative Tech, Belgium's leading digital consultancy, is looking for a Senior Java Developer in Machelen. You will design, build and maintain high-performance enterprise applications and modern back-end services, with basic front-end knowledge (Angular, React or Vue.js). This is an AI-augmented position: you must actively use AI tools in your daily work to speed up development, improve code quality and build intelligent features.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in the software architecture and design of enterprise applications, keeping Java code clean, scalable and maintainable.
• Design and implement microservices, REST APIs and databases with good performance, security and scalability.
• Build and integrate responsive front-end components for full-stack delivery.
• Use AI-assisted tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Antigravity, Google Gemini, Claude) to streamline coding, testing, debugging and documentation.
• Design AI-powered features such as LLM API integrations, RAG pipelines, intelligent automation and conversational interfaces.
• Take part in code reviews, automated testing and quality assurance.
• Mentor junior developers and communicate with clients and business stakeholders.

Required profile

• Strong analytical, problem-solving and architectural skills, with a solid grasp of computer science fundamentals, data structures and algorithms.
• Knowledge of software design patterns, Clean Architecture and microservices, and of Agile/Scrum and DevSecOps.
• Fluent Dutch or French and English.
• Genuine curiosity about AI and a proactive approach to modern tools.

Required skills

• Java 17/21+, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA.
• Microservices and web services (REST, gRPC or GraphQL).
• Relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and SQL; NoSQL familiarity.
• A front-end framework, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3/SASS; integrating front-ends with REST APIs.
• JUnit, Mockito, Jasmine/Karma or Jest; Git, Maven, Gradle, CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or Azure DevOps).
• OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT; LLM API integration (Spring AI or LangChain4j), RAG and vector databases (pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant).
• Nice to have: AWS, Azure or GCP; Docker, Kubernetes, Helm; Kafka or RabbitMQ; AI agent experience; professional certifications.
