Senior IT System Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior IT System Engineer to support high‑availability IT environments used in train, tram and metro infrastructure for a client in the railway sector. The role focuses on 2nd‑line system support, incident management, and continuous improvement of the infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and maintain hardware and software components.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve incidents, failures and changes.
• Perform testing, debugging, updates and patches.
• Provide 2nd‑line support and participate in on‑call rotations.
• Support go‑live and hyper‑care periods, including occasional out‑of‑hours work.
• Document technical procedures and keep documentation up to date.

Required profile

• Strong experience in IT infrastructure and system engineering.
• Very good knowledge of Linux (CentOS / RedHat).
• Scripting skills in Bash and/or Python.
• Extensive experience with VMware vSphere, vCenter and vMotion.
• Background in high‑availability production environments.
• Basic networking knowledge (router, switch, VPN, firewall).
• Fluent in Dutch and French; fluent English.
