Senior Bioinformatics Developer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Developer to join a remote team focused on advancing genomic analysis and precision medicine. The role involves designing, building, and optimizing scalable pipelines that process complex genomic data for clinical applications.

Key responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and improve pipelines for genomic variant analysis using modern workflow orchestration and pipeline management tools.
• Develop scalable, reproducible, and reliable bioinformatics workflows following best practices in software engineering.
• Design and implement robust tools for analyzing large genomic datasets.
• Optimize existing code and pipelines to enhance performance, efficiency, and scalability.
• Ensure data processing workflows are maintainable, accurate, and production‑ready.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and interdisciplinary teams to translate biological challenges into technical solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of bioinformatics platforms and development practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or related field (advanced degree a plus).
• Minimum 4 years of professional experience in Linux environments.
• Proven experience developing bioinformatics algorithms and genomic data processing pipelines.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Ability to work independently and contribute positively to team objectives.

Required skills

• Python programming (core skill).
• Perl scripting (advantage).
• Linux operating system.
• Version control with Git.
• Containerisation using Docker.
• Workflow orchestration and pipeline management tools.
• Database and data integration techniques.
