RF Systems Engineer - Satellite Payloads

About the role

Aerospacelab designs and manufactures small satellites and develops earth observation services, with offices in Belgium, France, Switzerland and the US West Coast. It is looking for an RF Systems Engineer to design and optimise RF systems and components for satellite telecom payloads, such as transponders, antennas, SSPAs and frequency converters, depending on experience and willingness to learn.

Key responsibilities

• Support the whole development chain: requirements, architecture, design, manufacturing, integration, test and operations.
• Develop test plans that cover both individual units and the complete system.
• Work on RF and telecommunication spacecraft architecture with mechanical, electrical, software and FPGA teams.
• Support design reviews to ensure requirements and interface compliance.
• Work with external telecommunication system providers to review designs, identify and resolve issues, and define integration and test approaches.
• Carry out in-lab testing and on-orbit performance validation using spectrum analyzers, network analyzers and signal generators.

Required profile

• MSc or PhD in Electrical, Telecommunication or Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in telecommunication systems, RF electronics or antennas.
• Ability to work autonomously across teams and drive multi-disciplinary projects to completion.
• Good communication skills and fluency in English.

Required skills

• RF simulation and modelling tools such as HFSS and ADS.
• RF design and manufacturing (PCB, waveguide).
• Hands-on use of RF test equipment (spectrum analyzers, signal generators, network analyzers).
• Nice to have: knowledge of telecommunication payloads and standards, SDR and DSP, Python scripting, space industry experience.
