Remote Node.js Software Engineer (Contractor)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced software engineer to work remotely on a contract basis (10‑12 hours per week). The role involves evaluating and improving code, designing solutions, and communicating technical reasoning for next‑generation AI system training.

Key responsibilities

• Work on diverse backend, full‑stack, infrastructure and systems tasks.
• Review, debug, enhance and explain code across various environments.
• Design or assess solutions involving APIs, databases, services, integrations, testing and deployment workflows.
• Identify trade‑offs related to scalability, maintainability, performance, reliability, security and developer experience.
• Document technical reasoning clearly in writing, outlining alternatives and rationale.
• Collaborate with the client’s team on technical reviews, implementation decisions and problem‑solving exercises.
• Quickly adapt to new codebases, frameworks and technical requirements.

Required profile

• 5+ years of hands‑on software engineering experience.
• Strong experience in at least one backend or full‑stack environment (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, C#, C++, Go, Ruby, PHP).
• Proven ability to build, maintain or review production‑grade applications, APIs, services or databases.
• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to explain complex engineering decisions objectively.
• Comfortable reading and reasoning through unfamiliar code or requirements.
