About the role

The Augment group at KU Leuven’s Department of Computer Science invites applications for fully funded PhD and postdoctoral positions focused on Human‑AI collaboration. The research aims to develop human‑centred AI systems that combine optimization, machine learning, explainable AI and interactive visual interfaces, enabling end‑users to understand, steer and collaborate with AI decision‑support tools across domains such as entertainment, healthcare, human resources and digital humanities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and evaluate interactive AI systems that support user steering and feedback.
• Develop optimisation algorithms and machine‑learning models tailored to human‑centred use cases.
• Create visualisation techniques that make AI rationale transparent.
• Conduct user studies to assess trust, acceptance and accuracy of the developed systems.
• Publish research findings in top‑tier conferences and journals.

Required profile

• Excellent Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Strong programming abilities and capacity for independent research.
• Clear interest and background in Human‑Computer Interaction.
• High proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
• Commitment to teamwork and collaborative research.
