Part‑time Academic in Criminal Law and Vulnerabilities

About the role
UCLouvain is seeking a part‑time (50%) academic to join the Faculty of Law and Criminology and the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research in Legal and Criminological Sciences. The position focuses on Youth Justice, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Sentence Enforcement.
Key responsibilities
- Teach courses in Youth Justice, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Sentence Enforcement across various programmes, including the School of Criminology.
- Supervise Master’s theses in Law and Criminology and, once tenured, supervise PhD theses.
- Lead research programmes in the same fields and contribute to the university’s international visibility.
- Participate in service activities such as programme committees, examination committees and faculty management roles.
Required profile
- PhD in Law or Legal Studies, preferably with criminology training.
- Proven university teaching record with formal evaluations.
- International publications of recognized standing and experience abroad.
- Significant criminal law practice experience in Belgium.
- Expertise in vulnerability contexts intersecting fundamental rights and security.
Required skills
- Ability to integrate research results into teaching and work in multidisciplinary teams.
- Creative and open to pedagogical innovation, especially teaching law to students with limited legal background.
- Capacity to conduct high‑level scientific research, obtain funding and manage research teams.
- Interdisciplinary approach using social‑science methodologies.
- Fluency in French and English (or commitment to acquire within two years).
What we offer
- Tenure after a successful probationary period (typically four years) with a public‑sector pension.
- Appointment as lecturer or professor based on experience.
- Teaching load capped at 90 hours (full‑time) and 150 hours once tenured.
