Mechanical Technician III – Data Center Maintenance

About the role

Join Google’s Data Center team as a Mechanical Technician III, responsible for operating, monitoring, and supporting the physical facilities of cutting‑edge data centers. You will work on sophisticated mechanical and HVAC systems that keep critical infrastructure running efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair data‑center mechanical components such as piping, chillers, air handling units, pumps, and CRAC/CRAH units.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to guide maintenance activities.
• Provide daily assistance to fellow technicians and coordinate with external contractors during upgrades or repairs.
• Monitor system performance, respond to emergencies, and minimize downtime during outages.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and ergonomic standards while seeking cost‑reduction opportunities.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a technical field.
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical or HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial setting.
• Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lb (23 kg) and use safety equipment such as harnesses, platforms, and ladders.
• Willingness to work non‑standard hours, rotations, or shifts.
• Preferred experience in data‑center, hospital, or power‑plant environments and familiarity with meters, sensors, and diagnostic tools.
