Junior Mechanical Design Engineer - Production Line Integration

About the role

Aerospacelab, which designs and manufactures small satellites and develops earth observation services, is looking for a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its production engineering team. You will design and detail the mechanical structure of automated production and inspection machines, including frames, fixtures, tooling, end-effectors and moving assemblies, working closely with automation, controls and manufacturing engineers. This is an entry-level, hands-on technical role with no people-management responsibilities, with mentorship from senior mechanical and automation engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design mechanical components and sub-assemblies for automated production and inspection cells (frames, fixtures, jigs, tooling, end-effectors) using 3D CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent).
• Select and size standard mechanical components such as linear guides, actuators, bearings and pneumatic/hydraulic elements.
• Produce detailed manufacturing drawings and support procurement and machining of custom parts.
• Support assembly, integration and commissioning of mechanical subsystems on the shop floor with automation and controls engineers.
• Contribute to basic structural and kinematic calculations (loads, deflection, motion clearances) for new machine designs.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering, electromechanical engineering or a related field.
• 0-2 years of relevant experience; internships or academic projects count.
• Genuine interest in hands-on mechanical design for production equipment and machine building.
• Fluent in English; French is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA or equivalent).
• Solid grasp of mechanical design fundamentals: tolerancing, material selection, fastening, kinematics.
• Nice to have: basic knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics or motion control; robotics, automation or machine-building projects; experience in aerospace, space or other highly regulated manufacturing.
