Freelance Enterprise Architect – Brussels

About the role

We are seeking a senior Enterprise Architect on a freelance basis to strengthen architecture governance for a large Belgian enterprise within an international IT organization. The role focuses on defining standards, guiding local delivery teams, and ensuring alignment with group‑level platform guardrails.

Key responsibilities

• Define and continuously improve the architecture governance framework, including principles, standards, policies, and reference architectures.
• Facilitate Architecture Review Board (ARB) sessions and produce decision packs.
• Translate group‑level platform guardrails into practical guidance for delivery teams.
• Conduct trade‑off and cost‑benefit analyses (e.g., ATAM, CBAM) to provide well‑founded architectural recommendations.
• Maintain the enterprise architecture repository and architecture decision records as the single source of truth.
• Perform architecture alignment assessments at project kick‑off and key milestones, issuing go/no‑go recommendations and compliance reviews.
• Contribute to the enterprise‑wide IT roadmap and Architecture Vision Document.
• Govern enterprise data architecture standards, including data modelling, integration patterns, and data governance.
• Coach other architects and act as a bridge between business, IT, architecture, and infrastructure teams.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience as an Enterprise Architect.
• Proven experience facilitating ARB sessions and producing decision packs.
• Strong stakeholder management and presentation skills, interacting with delivery teams up to senior management.
• Fluent English; additional French, Dutch or German is a plus.
• Non‑EU candidates must hold a valid Belgian work and residence permit.
