Freelance Compliance Consultant – Banking (Brussels)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Compliance Consultant to join a leading financial institution in Brussels. The role involves working closely with senior management, business units and regulators to ensure the bank meets all relevant Belgian and European regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret evolving Belgian and EU banking regulations and assess their impact on business processes.
• Identify, assess and monitor compliance risks, conduct gap analyses and develop corrective action plans.
• Act as a trusted advisor to business and support functions, providing practical guidance on regulatory matters.
• Conduct compliance monitoring, thematic reviews and prepare reports for senior management, committees and regulators.
• Develop and deliver compliance training, promote a strong compliance culture and raise awareness of emerging risks.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Law, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of compliance experience within banking or financial services.
• Professional proficiency in English; fluency in French and/or Dutch is a strong asset.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of banking regulations and compliance governance frameworks.
• Expertise in AML/CFT, KYC and Customer Due Diligence.
• Familiarity with MiFID II, consumer protection regulations, PSD2, sanctions and financial crime compliance.
• Experience with regulatory reporting and governance requirements.
