Embedded Software Engineer - Satellite Units

About the role

Aerospacelab designs and manufactures small satellites and develops the embedded software running on their units. It is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join an agile team focused on a specific unit, such as on-board computers, radios, cameras, optical transceivers, network switches or sensors and actuators. You will work closely with EE and FPGA engineers, and depending on the project also with RF, AOCS, optical or network engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Work with hardware and system engineers to design and build unit firmware and high-level satellite applications
• Produce high-quality flight software components following the established development flow (requirements engineering, design, implementation, testing and maintenance)
• Support the definition of the satellite system architecture

Required profile

• BSc, MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering or a related field
• Experience with C and Python
• Experience developing embedded software in a Linux environment
• Experience with full-cycle software development
• Ability to read schematics and layouts, and experience with digital hardware tools (flashers, JTAG, oscilloscope)
• Good communication skills and good English

Required skills

• Real-time operating systems, preferably FreeRTOS
• Familiarity with Buildroot, UBoot, Zynq, CMake and communication links (CAN, I2C, SPI, UART, SPW)
• Nice to have: space sector experience and knowledge of ECSS/CCSDS standards
