Data Engineer

About the role

Agilytic, a boutique data and AI consultancy founded in 2015, is hiring a Data Engineer for its Platform Engineering & BI practice in Brussels. You will build and maintain the data infrastructure used by Data Scientists and Data Analysts to deliver value to clients. Regular presence at client offices is required, with flexible and hybrid working, and the team meets every Friday in the city centre.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build maintainable cloud data architectures (infrastructure, ETL, infra-as-code)
• Integrate data sources by developing data pipelines
• Create large data warehouses and datamarts for reporting and advanced analytics
• Monitor the quality and stability of data solutions and optimise performance and costs
• Support Data Scientists and Data Analysts in deploying data solutions for clients
• Keep up with data technology trends and share knowledge with colleagues

Required profile

• Master's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics or a related quantitative discipline
• At least 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a closely related role, with hands-on exposure to big data platforms, cloud environments or end-to-end BI projects
• Fluency in English, plus French or Dutch (strong Dutch is particularly valued)
• Eligibility to work in Belgium and the EU; Belgian type B driving licence or equivalent

Required skills

• Data pipeline management/ETL and database management (SQL and noSQL)
• Data modelling basics (3NF, star schema) and large file storage (HDFS, data lake, S3, Blob)
• Cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and Docker
• DevOps practices (CI/CD, infra-as-code, unit testing) and workflow/streaming tools (Airflow, Oozie, Kafka, Kinesis, Elasticsearch) are a plus
• Python and SQL; Spark with Scala or PySpark is a plus
