Data Center Facilities Technician II – Electrical

About the role

The Data Center Facilities Technician II – Electrical supports the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of critical electrical and mechanical systems within Google data centers. You will work on‑site to ensure reliable power delivery, cooling, and overall facility performance.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and support physical facilities including power distribution, generators, UPS, and HVAC systems.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair data‑center infrastructure such as piping, non‑critical electrical and mechanical components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and system diagrams to assess equipment condition.
• Conduct tours and provide daily assistance to senior technicians.
• Develop and implement cost‑effective solutions to improve data‑center efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and ergonomic standards.
• Respond to emergencies and abnormal conditions to minimize downtime.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of experience in mission‑critical facility maintenance and operations.
• Experience with electrical distribution systems and ability to lift/move up to 50 lb.
• Willingness to work non‑standard hours, rotations, or shifts.
• Preferred experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.

Required skills

• Electrical distribution systems (feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear).
• UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units.
• Use of meters, digital metering, calibration/diagnostic equipment.
• Reading blueprints and schematics.
• Material handling and proper use of PPE (safety harnesses, ladders, platforms).
