Concept Engineer / Innovation Specialist R&D

About the role

In this position you will combine technical expertise, market insight and creative thinking to shape early‑stage concepts that have real‑world relevance. Working within imec’s System Engineering team, you will help translate application needs into system requirements and guide multidisciplinary research teams from ideas to validated innovation paths.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse complex problems and workflows to define the scope of prototype development projects.
• Identify and engage stakeholders through interviews and workshops to elicit needs.
• Decompose stakeholder needs into high‑level system requirements and co‑define system architecture with technical experts.
• Explore market and technology trends to identify disruptive opportunities and build development roadmaps.
• Conduct Voice of the Customer activities, facilitate workshops and synthesize information for concept selection.
• Provide training, coaching and knowledge‑sharing to colleagues and act as an ambassador for the team.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in engineering, product innovation or a related field.
• Minimum three years of experience in product or innovation development.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with technical experts and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong analytical and communication skills to translate needs into system requirements.
