Competition Law Associate – Brussels

About the role

DLA Piper is seeking an experienced competition lawyer to join its global competition team in Brussels. The role involves advising a diverse client base on the full spectrum of EU competition matters, from merger control to state aid and behavioural issues.

Key responsibilities

• Provide counsel on merger control transactions and the EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation.
• Advise on multijurisdictional foreign direct investment (FDI) matters.
• Represent clients before the European Commission and national competition authorities in investigations and market studies.
• Handle state aid applications and compliance.
• Deliver advice on behavioural and commercial competition law issues.
• Collaborate with DLA Piper’s international competition team and act as a trusted business partner for clients.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer in an EU jurisdiction.
• 5‑8 years of competition law experience, preferably from a leading law firm.
• Broad exposure to investigations, merger control, FDI, state aid and behavioural work.
• Fluent English; Dutch is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to develop client relationships and a proactive business‑development mindset.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of EU competition law, merger control and state aid rules.
• Experience drafting client‑focused legal documents.
• Strong analytical skills to assess complex technical and economic issues.
• Ability to work across jurisdictions and advise international clients.
